Science Matters with initiatives to the membership, which include a continued focus on research, fostering the research culture in forensic science, and expanding and integrating forensic science research within the broader scientific community. Three areas cited of work performed by the Academy: The Forensic Sciences Foundation, which gives grants and scholarships to students and educators; the Humanitarian and Human Rights Resource Center, which is involved with providing forensic assistance globally where necessary; and the AAFS Academy Standards Board, which is developing standards to improve the quality and reliability of forensic science evidence that is used in court.

The Salish Sea Ecosystem Conference attracts over a thousand participants and has become the premier scientific research and policy gathering in the Pacific Northwest. SAGES World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery, April 11-14

SAGES (The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons) was founded in 1981 to foster, promote, and support academic, clinical and research endeavors in gastrointestinal endoscopic surgery. SAGES currently boasts more than 6,000 general surgeon members from countries ranging the globe. SAGES annual meeting is oriented toward minimally invasive and endoscopic surgery and in 2017 had an attendance of over 2,400 surgeons.

SAGES is a leading force in both resident education and continuing medical education. Our meeting fosters these dual educational goals. Mass Timber Conference, March 20-22

Clean Pacific 2018 Conference and Exhibition, June 18-21

CLEAN PACIFIC is designed to bring together stakeholders in spill prevention and response from government, environmental, emergency planning and emergency response industries to discuss lessons-learned, hear best practices, and view new products and solutions from a wide-variety of companies. The 2016 conference agenda covered spill prevention and response for marine, inland waterways, rail and pipeline and was broken out into three tracks: Planning and Preparedness, Prevention, and Response and Recovery.

The program was carefully developed by an Advisory Committee made up of top-notch experts representing State/Provincial and Federal Government, industry and non-profit partners in oil spill prevention, preparedness and response.

Roadmap 11 2018, June 18-21

Northwest District Convention of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, June 21-23

The 2018 LCMS Northwest District Convention is scheduled for Thursday, June 21, to Saturday, June 23, in Portland, Oregon at the Oregon Convention Center.

Conventions are held every three years by each of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s 35 districts. The schedule includes time for conducting business, electing officers and sharing information, and the conventions also offer opportunities for worship, nurture, inspiration and fellowship.

Pastors, teachers and other commissioned ministers, and lay delegates elected by congregations are required to attend. General sessions are open to anyone who wishes to attend as an observer, and guests are also invited to the worship services.
